Requiem for 9-11 is a transformational performance piece combining keyboard, spoken word, operatic voice and other elements intended to bring the audience on a journey through shared pain to a place of interconnectedness, love and peace.
Dezi DeSiervi, the composer, has used varied language elements to deliver the message of this modern interpretation on a more subtle plane. English is interspersed with Latin, Italian and words made up to evoke feelings through association and sound. There’s also a quote from Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr., which is sung enunciating only the vowels to communicate feeling rather than literal meaning.
